Planning. . .

Hey Everyone,

This is the first posting of A Fool's Journey...bike trip from St. Paul to NYC.  It came about because of my love for biking, wanting to do something exciting in my new "retirement" from corporate america - yay!!!!!, and the desire for an adventure.  I chose New York as a destination because I lived there for many years and have been wanting to visit.  The date has been tentatively set for June 11, 2012.  Six to seven crazy weeks of biking!  I am so psyched for this adventure, even in these very early planning stages!  With this bike trip, I hope to inspire everyone to get up and move a little more!

I started riding last summer.  The first half of the summer I put a lot of miles on my old Schwinn.  I felt like it was time to upgrade.  When I picked up my Long Haul Trucker, and rode it away from the shop, my buddy, Reed, chided me, "Fool, get out of that granny gear!" I did and then rode 2,000 miles in 4 months.

I just rode and rode and loved it more each day.  John F. Kennedy once said that there is nothing quite like the simple pleasure of riding a bike.  For me, it is a simple pleasure and the best part of my day.  Everything just gets better when I get on my bike.  I appreciate the world around me, I get to see the world from my bike and I get to interact with that world, in a way that you never would from a car.  Not long ago my daughter, Emma, asked me, "Mom, remember when you were normal, and just rode your bike once in awhile?"  We both had a good laugh over that one!

Jacque from Solidago Riders recently helped me so much in planning a route and with such great practical information for the trip.  Thank you so much, Jacque!

In the near future, I will be selling some really fine t-shirts as a fundraiser, a must-have, haha!

I'll post again soon!

  2. Hi Cindy:
I learned of your blog and adventure plans from my cousin, Jean. I did something similar in '09. I rode my horse from Mexico to Canada on the Pacific Crest Trail. I, too, blogged, and ended up writing a book. (www.Eques-Trek.com) I will enjoy "sharing" your journey. Are you camping out (I did) or finding places to stay? Janice
